Diagnostic Tests

It can be a stressful time for owners when your pet is sick. It is usually also harder sometimes to figure out why your pet is sick as we don’t have the luxury of them telling us where it hurts! Because of this we often have to run diagnostic tests to get to the bottom of the illness your pet might be suffering from.

Blood Tests

We have an in-clinic blood machine that is capable of carrying out a wide range of biochemical tests not only to diagnose disease in your pets but also for routine blood screening such as prior to an anaesthetic or to detect early disease in our more elderly patients.

Our vets are also trained to take tissue samples such as from lumps and bumps to be examined at a lab by trained veterinary pathologists.

We also use a large commercial laboratory, that allow us to run a wide and comprehensive range of tests for your pets if required.

X-ray & Ultrasound

Radiography or “X-rays” have been common place in both human and veterinary medicine for many years. X-rays are commonly used to detect diseases associated with the skeleton, heart and lungs as well as certain abdominal organs. We are well equipped with a modern High Frequency X-ray unit and a Fujifilm Prima II CR Digital Radiography system to enable us to take high quality x-rays of your pets.

Ultrasonography uses high frequency sound to produce images of certain organs, muscle and soft tissue. It is particularly useful to look at the structure of organs in the abdomen as well as muscle and joints.  Ultrasound can be used for medical diagnosis as well as pregnancy scans.

Dr Ee Heng is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Radiology and has particular skills and interests in these imaging modalities that he can offer your pets.

Electrocardiography (ECG)

The heart rhythm and electrical activity can often be abnormal in heart disease. One way of measuring this is by using electrocardiography or ECG.  Dr Bruce has many years of experience in running and using ECG to diagnose types of heart conditions. We have a dedicated ECG machine for this purpose.

We also offer referral to the specialists for more specialised imaging such as echocardiography (heart ultrasound), endoscopy, CT and MR 3D imaging, just like in humans!
